Diabetes diet

  • Take refined sugar out of your diet.
  • Take food made with white flour out of your diet.
  • Avoid eating simple carbohydrates, such as potato products.
  • Eat kamut pasta instead of white flour pasta.
  • Eat a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet.
  • Avoid processed foods and foods high in sugar, salt, and fat.
  • Eat brown rice in place of white rice.

Basics of Diabetes diet

The diabetes diet should be healthy but tasty enough so that the diabetic enjoys eating. Diabetics should eat within 2 hours after waking up in the morning. A proper diabetes diet should include drinking warm water first thing in the morning. This will be followed by breakfast two hours later. A diabetic should eat at least five times a day. This will be constituted of three main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and two snacks in between. Doctors who assisted in our research recommend eating up to six small meals throughout the day (this includes the snacks,) and eating the last meal two hours before bed time. This last meal should be a light snack.

Pre-diabetes and the diabetes diet

Take refined sugar out of your diet: Excess refined sugar metabolizes into body fat. This fat then finds its way into the blood stream where it coats the cells preventing the cells from metabolizing the sugar and transporting it to the muscles to be used as energy.

Take food made from white flour out of your diet: White flour is a refined (simple) carbohydrate, also known as a “bad carbohydrate.” Refined carbohydrates convert into glucose, here again, metabolizing into body fat.

Avoid eating simple carbohydrates like potatoes products: Potatoes and potatoe products of any kind are mainly simple carbohydrates. They should be avoided for the reasons given above.

Eat kamut pasta instead of white flour pasta: Eat a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet. For example, grilled salmon on a bed of sautéed or baked vegetables as shown in the picture on our home page. Kamut pasta is pasta made from kamut, a grain that has more protein, pound for pound, than red meat. Avoid processed and fast foods: The latest research shows that as processed food and fast food consumption increases, so do the number of cases of type 2 diabetes. At one time, type 2 diabetes was only found in middle aged and older adults. Now this type of diabetes is being found not only in young adults, but children as well. The reason for this is obesity caused by consumption of processed foods and fast foods. The number of obese children worldwide has reached epidemic proportions due to these two categories of food products.

Eat brown rice in place of white rice: A good diabetes diet should be healthy and low in calories. White rice goes through a milling process which removes the rice’s husk, bran, and germ. This process removes most of the grains nutrition, including vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Diet for type 2 diabetes

Your diet should include about 30 grams of protein per day derived from chicken breast, fish, or lean beef. The meat should have good fat, such as omega 3 fatty acid, to help digest the protein. If it is too lean, you can add a teaspoon of olive oil as fat.
